January Athlete of the Month

By: 0

The Willow Creek CrossFit January Athlete of the Month is Julia Burrowbridge. Julia as only been a member with us since August of 2017 but has made some great strides in improving her fitness and overall health! She has jumped right into the community and is already a staple at social events. Keep it up Julia!

How long have you been at Willow Creek CrossFit and what made you want to join?

I joined this past August. I moved to Iowa from Ohio in July and had a membership at Anytime Fitness, but really wasn’t enjoying going to the gym at all. I wanted a way to meet people, try something new and get stronger and fitter.

How is your life different after being a member at Willow Creek CrossFit?

I look forward to coming to the gym almost every day which is definitely not some thing I used to do. I can relieve some stress and have fun doing it. I love the feeling after a workout where I’m amazed about what my body can do and can see my lifts improving.

Whats your favorite part about the gym or a favorite moment?

My favorite moment is when I talked a bunch of crap about how Iowa was gonna lose to Ohio State and then Ohio State got crushed and I had to avoid the gym for a couple of days… well that’s probably my least favorite…

What’s your spirit animal?

I have to go with hippo. Because I’m still in the Christmas mood and “I want a hippopotamus for Christmas” is my favorite holiday song.

What are your interests outside of work and the gym?

I love hiking and traveling. It’s a life goal to visit all 59 national parks. I have 11 crossed off now and I’m pretty much always trying to plan a new hiking trip. I also enjoy reading, mainly non fiction books.

What has been your favorite workout/movement?

I’m a big fan of squats and deadlifts, especially after I was able to hit that 200 lb mark.

Give us an interesting fact that we don’t already know about you.

In the prime of my athletic career (high school), I went to nationals for track and field. I ran shuttle hurdles, so a relay version of 100 meter hurdles and we got 9th place.

Thanks Julia!!
